Material Selection

Frequently a materials performance deficiency will drive an organization to deliberate replacement options.  Numerous factors demand optimization, including desired mechanical properties, fabrication processes, surface treatments, resistance to environmental degradation, and life cycle cost.  I rely on my years of experience and expertise in chemistry and metallurgical engineering to advise clients across the spectrum of metallic, polymeric and ceramic materials.  If desired, a nondisclosure agreement may be executed.

Failure Analysis

Failures of engineered structures often have severe consequences in terms of injury or death, or significant economic losses resulting from repairs, downtime, and possible litigation.  Laboratory examination and analysis of failed components frequently contribute information vital to an understanding of the cause of a failure, and can be used to minimize the risk of recurrence.  My experience in litigation forensics extends from carefully documented laboratory testing to expert witness deposition and courtroom testimony.
